Kim Kardashian Drops the Fairy Tale in Borderline Depressing New Glamour Interview
The nominations for the 27th annual Independent Spirit Awards were revealed this morning, and were dominated by The Weinstein Company's The Artist and Sony Pictures Classics' Take Shelter, which scored five nods each. Historically, Indie Spirit winners have tended to get nominated for -- but lose -- at the Oscars. That could change this year, however, with The Artist and The Descendants, two films that have both resonated as strongly as any with Academy members thus far, both nominated for best feature, best director and best screenplay.our editor recommends'The Artist,' 'Take Shelter' Dominate Indie Spirit Award NominationsThe Making of 'The Artist'The Making of 'My Week With Marilyn'Take Shelter: Film Review PHOTOS: The Making of 'The Artist' The Artist, The Descendants and Take Shelter will compete for best feature with Beginners (the big winner at last night's Gotham Awards), Drive, and 50/50. Bizarrely, Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris, which is one of the likeliest best picture Oscar nominees, was denied a spot in this category (as well as best director and best screenplay), even though it was nominated for best supporting actor (Corey Stoll) and best cinematography. Drake Doremus' Like Crazy, which also seemed to be a likely nominee, was also snubbed. PHOTOS: 'The Descendants' Premiere Red Carpet Arrivals A few other films were left out of the major categories for other reasons: Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life, with its $32 million budget, was too big to pass as an indie for this group. Meanwhile, three critics' favorites with Oscar aspirations -- Lars von Trier's Melancholia, Steve McQueen's Shame and Lynne Ramsey's We Need to Talk About Kevin -- were deemed to be foreign films and therefore ineligible outside of the category alotted for those. PHOTOS: Gotham Awards Red Carpet Arrivals Lastly, two inexplicable snubs occurred in the lead acting categories: George Clooney, the star of The Descendants, was left out of the best actor race, while Glenn Close, the star of Albert Nobbs, was left out of the best actress field-- even though her co-star Janet McTeer was nominated for best supporting actress. (I wouldn't read too much into these particular outcomes; indeed, it is highly likely that the Academy will reverse them.) I expect that those races will now be won by Jean Dujardin (The Artist) and either Michelle Williams (My Week with Marilyn) or Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene), respectively, and that Christopher Plummer (Beginners) and Shailene Woodley (The Descendants) will prevail in the supporting categories. 'Arrested Development' to come back on Netflix
'Arrested Development'Netflix is certification new instances of the television series "Arrested Development" from twentieth century Fox Television and Imagine Television. The edges struck an offer using the streaming service which will launch new instances of the Emmy-winning comedy at the begining of 2013, the studio confirmed. The possibilities of "Development" coming back both in TV and film forms was elevated recently once the show's creator, Mitch Hurwitz, introduced within an appearance in the NYer Festival he was set on getting back the series' original stars, including Jason Bateman and can Arnett, for an additional go-round. "Arrested" were built with a significantly acclaimed operate on Fox from 2003-2006, however the network canceled the series given its rankings were always modest at best. All the series regulars have expressed curiosity about coming back and therefore are expected back, though no deals happen to be done. How which will work is going to be interesting given most of them are maintaing busy careers. "Arrested" player Arnett is presently around the NBC series "Up Through The Night" and the other alum, Portia p Rossi, is mounted on a higher-profile project in development in the Peacock. Where this leaves the suggested "Arrested" feature film is not obvious. While one source acquainted with the project stated it's presently in development at Fox Searchlight, another source in the studio refused it had been an energetic project. Hurwitz's vision from the film ended up being to schedule it following the series run to be able to drive interest in the box office, but at the minimum it appears the film and TV aren't mounted on one another. Hurwitz was executive producer of "Arrested" with Imagine principals Ron Howard and John Grazer. The creating pair released an argument: "Getting a set back from cancellation rarely happens, however, 'Arrested' always involved as unconventional because they get, therefore it appears totally appropriate this reveal that broke the mold is smashing it to pieces once more." That Netflix has emerged the champion of the putting in a bid war that apparently incorporated pay-TV player Showtime is going to be seen as an real coup for that service, which already gave Hollywood notice in March it is at the initial programming business inside a large way if this purchased a 22-episode adaptation from the BBC drama "House of Cards" set to premiere the coming year. Experts believed "Cards," which will come with Kevin Spacey mounted on star and David Fincher to executive produce, cost Netflix $100 million to find the privileges from Media Privileges Capital. Financial the "Arrested" deal aren't known but tend to be substantial because of the quality of talent involved. While Netflix's market capital was sent spinning in recent several weeks after ill-advised choices regarding its prices, the requirement for original programming is the higher as content companies have held the road at giving the service Television shows which are in-season. Since Netflix began certification original series, the service continues to be seen as an potential messiah for ill-fated productions that will get shuttered within the objections of the popularity too small to sustain them. But saving a show that accompany a built-in audience--although one they canrrrt survive on television--might be a safer strategy than developing a new property from whole cloth. The hedge on "Cards" is the fact that its narrative has become an evaluation run within the U.K. however with different talent on sides from the camera. Ted Sarandos, chief content officer at Netflix stated from the deal, "'Arrested Development is among the finest American comedies in TV background and its return through Netflix is an ideal illustration of the way we will work carefully with galleries and systems to supply customers with entertainment they love,'" stated Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer. The return of "Development" will be a stunner trained with is rare that the series returns following a protracted absence, though 20th and Fox have experienced precedent here: Animated series "Family Guy" was canceled in 2001 simply to be elevated 3 years later following the series worked out well on DVD as well as in distribution. Stan Lee Outlines New MTV Geek Comic Series 'The Seekers' (Exclusive Q&A)
Stan Leecontinues to introduce brand new comic book properties to the world. Lee has partnered with MTV Geek, the new pop culture website that has attracted over 1.2 million unique readers, to develop the science fiction adventure The Seekers. The comic will launch digitally in 2012 and eventually migrate to print.our editor recommendsStan Lee to Receive 2012 Producers Guild Vanguard AwardStan Lee to Receive Visual Effects Societys Lifetime Achievement Award PHOTOS: Comic-Book Characters In Dispute Adding a unique twist to the development process, Lee utilized the Internet to offer aspiring comic book writers and artists a chance to work with him on the comic. Lee chose the winners, screenwriter Heather Kenealy (DevaShard) of Studio City, CA and illustrator Stephen Green of Savannah, GA, after MTV Geek fans had voted on the best entries. Lee talks about this new project and its potential to cross over to mainstream entertainment in this exclusive interview. VIDEOS: Behind The Scenes at THR's Comic-Con Lounge The Hollywood Reporter: Can you talk about your new collaboration with MTV Geek: The Seekers comic series? Stan Lee: It actually is a spectacular adventure. It bridges time and space, and with the fate of mankind at stake, so you can see it's a pretty big thing. It takes place in the present, but it also goes back to the past quite often, and it touches on the future. The fate of the whole world and the whole human race is at stake. It this thing doesn't have a happy ending, than woe to mankind. THR: Can you talk a little bit about The Seekers themselves, the alien presence that have been sent off to different planets to oversee a failsafe type device? Lee: Yes, there is a device. I don't want to give away the whole story, but there is a device that could destroy our planet. It's up to the Seekers to ... and here it gets ambivalent. Some of them want the device to destroy the planet. That was the purpose of it, originally, ages ago. And some of the Seekers want to find the device and destroy it before it can blow up our planet because they think that Earth and the human race are worth saving. We really have the good Seekers versus the bad Seekers with our human heroes and incidental characters caught in between. THR: What are your thoughts on the talent that entered this MTV contest for The Seekers? Lee: I want to tell you, the great entries that we received bore out my belief that there are countless talented people among our legion of fans. People who, if they just get the chance, they could show what they're capable of. We had some really great entries. THR: What's it like to be able to give fans and aspiring writers and artists a chance to get into the comic book industry? Lee: It's a great feeling. I just wish that more people in entertainment found ways to give more opportunities to people who otherwise would never have a chance to show what they can do. Can you talk about what you looked for in the winners? Lee: Obviously, writing and artwork that was as close to professional writing and artwork as possible. From the writers, we looked for good dialog, good characterization, and a basic talent for telling an absorbing story; a good story sense. From the artists, we looked for illustrations that could be really favorably compared to the artwork in today's great comic books. THR: Now that you have the winners, can you explain how you will work with them in developing The Seekers comic moving forward? Lee: I'm certainly going to do my best to make this one of the best comic books to be published in 2012 or any year. I'll be meeting with them. I'll be going over the story as it's written. I'll be looking and critiquing the artwork. We haven't started yet, but I can't wait until we do get started. THR: Comic books are very popular today in Hollywood. What are your thoughts on the potential for evolving The Seekers beyond comics into traditional entertainment like film and television? Lee: It's like anything else; if the books turn out as great as I hope they will, then a filmed version would be a no-brainer. Movie producers are always looking for the next big thing, and they really very carefully scan graphic novels and comic books all the time hoping to find something that would make a good movie, and sometimes a good TV series. We will always have that in mind as we're working on The Seekers. THR: We've seen comics migrate to video games, as well. Why would The Seekers make a good video game down the line? Lee: A good video game needs great characters that the player can relate to and great powers that the characters have, which are visually exciting and fun to use when you're holding that controller, hitting those keys, and making the character do what he has to do. They also love great backgrounds. The players also love themes they haven't played before. I think The Seekers qualify in all these areas. THR: What are your thoughts on the opportunities that exist today for aspiring comic book creators versus what was around when you started in the industry? Lee: Honestly, it's much tougher today. There's more competition, and there are better competitors. Comic books are now thought to be the source of great movies. Many people will want to become screenwriters, directors, producers, and whatever. They feel if they could become involved with or create a good comic book, that it will be noticed and turned into a movie. THR: What are the ingredients to succeed as comic book writer? Lee: To be a great comic book writer, within that comic book story, you've got to be able to make your characters come alive. They've got to be interesting. Your dialog has to be fun to read and believable. It's like the rules in writing any good novel or anything. Related Topics MTV Networks Stan Lee

Future, future, future, Carrie told Access Hollywood guest correspondent Jill Martin in an interview in Nashville on Sunday, when asked if she and her hockey star husband are thinking of adding to their family. Right now, [Mike is] gone all the time, so it just wouldnt be fair to either one of us as parents or to our child if it was like, Well, sorry little baby, youre not going to see your dad for a few months cause mommys got to go on the road and neither one of us are willing to bend on what we do right now. We have two doggies, and they keep us quite busy and quite entertained, she added. While the power pair is currently content with their hectic work schedules and canine companions, Carrie admitted a closet space shortage has been a slight bone of contention between her and her hockey hunk. [Mike] is such the perfect mix of like, mans man you know, he plays hockey, hes a tough guy but he dresses nice and hes got a lot of shoes, and stuff like that, hes just the perfect little blend but that comes with its own set of problems, Carrie told Jill. Hes like, I need more closet space. I was like, Where am I going to put all my stuff?! Now, he has totally interrupted my girl space with these giant metal racks with all of his coats and stuff on them, she continued. All of our guest bedroom closets are full of his stuff. Its embarrassing. People come over, and theyre like, Um, I hope you dont mind, I had to move a couple of these things so I could hang some dresses. Im like, Im sorry. Sorry. And speaking of dresses, the 28-year-old singer, who (in addition to her co-host duties) is nominated for six CMA awards, says this years show will include a dizzying number of wardrobe changes though the exact number has yet to be determined. Luckily, the wardrobe malfunction occurred during rehearsals, and not during the actual show. I had literally 40 seconds to change my outfit head to toe, and people were like holding up sheets there were probably a lot of people who saw a lot of Carrie Underwood that night, she laughed. I didnt make the change in time, and then I walked out there and had to read my monologue holding my dress together. It was horrible! As for her beauty secrets, Carrie, a spokeswoman for Olay, revealed she begins preparing her skin for big events a couple of weeks in advance. I always try to just really pay close attention to my skin, and make sure everythings OK, and keep it clean, keep it moisturized, and all that stuff, she said. The day and the night of [the event], sleep, water, keep your moisturizer on, keep your face clean, youre good to go. Casey Affleck Has 'No Idea' What 'Paradise Lost' Will Look Like
Director Alex Proyas is undertaking a pretty gargantuan feat in his attempt to adapt John Milton's epic poem "Paradise Lost" for the big screen. In fact, it's so gargantuan that even its stars can't wrap their mind about what it's going to look like. The project has gathered an impressive cast to play some of the most famous Biblical characters of all time. Bradley Cooper will play Lucifer, Camilla Belle and Diego Boneta will play Eve and Adam, and Casey Affleck will play the archangel Gabriel. It will be interesting to see how Proyas manages to bring the classic to the big screen using modern inventions like CGI. We're assuming that the angels in this film will look a bit more impressive than the one's in Kevin Smith's "Dogma," for instance. (No disrespect intended, Matt and Ben!) So what exactly will "Paradise Lost" look like? When MTV caught up with Casey Affleck while he was promoting "Tower Heist," he admitted that he has no idea. "I think it's going to be a ginormous crazy-looking movie," he said with a laugh. "I have no idea exactly what it's going to look like other than it's going to be a big blue room as far as I know. Then they'll create some amazing world around it." Sounds like it's going to be a visually impressive ride, but we'll hold our judgment until we -- or at least the stars -- have some visual basis to go off of. Are you looking forward to "Paradise Lost"? Tell us in the comments section below or on Twitter!
